Joint pre-Cycle 5 ALMA workshop - Toruń & Ondřejov

3-4 April 2017 in Piwnice near Toruń, Poland

The Toruń Centre for Astronomy of the Nicolaus Copernicus University and the Czech ALMA Regional Center organize a joint workshop aimed to prepare the community of Polish and Czech astronomers to the upcoming ALMA Cycle 5 deadline expected on 20 April 2017. The workshop will take place on 3-4 April 2017 in Piwnice near Toruń, Poland, and on 6-7 April 2017 in Prague, Czech Republic. The workshop will cover an introduction to the ALMA observatory, its current capabilities and the science highlights, as well as the introduction to the ALMA procedures and tools. The main focus during the hands-on exercises will be the ALMA Observing Tool so that participants can start to prepare their own ALMA proposals with technical support from experts.

Registration

Registration for the workshop is required due to the limited capacity of the workshop space. The registration deadline is March 27. There is no registration fee.

All participants are requested to bring their own laptops with the installation of the ALMA Observing Tool. More details will follow shortly.

Accommodation is not provided, but we will help with the room reservation either in Piwnice (30 PLN / night) or in the University Hotel in Toruń (120 PLN / night, hotel website: pl, en). We can offer a limited support for the stay at Piwnice upon the individual requests.

Required installations

All participants are requested to bring their personal computers with installation of ALMA Observing tool. Please see the instructions on the installation at ALMA Science Portal.
